Tour Coordinators and Guides:
Jofa M. Kauffman, Spirited Events by Jofa and Mindy Eveler, Vacays by Mindy
Join Jofa and Mindy for a "5-Night Mystical Tour of New Orleans and Myrtles Plantation"! We have planned a unique experience in Louisiana including some ghostly adventures for our "paranormal enthusiasts".
Upon arrival on Saturday, we begin our trip at the 4-star Bourbon Orleans Hotel, one of the top 5 haunted hotels in New Orleans. The hotel is known for guests seeing ghostly apparitions of nuns, children, a Confederate soldier, and a dancing woman. These are likely some lingering residents from the time the hotel was a convent, orphanage, and grand theater. Guests have reported paranormal activity such as disembodied voices, phantom footsteps, and unexplained cold spots, with Room 644 being a particularly active area.
During our first evening, you can select to join the group at the infamous Vampire Apothecary Restaurant and Bar for dinner at your expense. What a great way to immerse yourself into New Orleans!
Wake up early on Sunday because you will have all day to explore on your own and see what New Orleans has to offer. Maybe you'll choose to have breakfast and taste the infamous sweet, powdery beignets, savory jambalaya or hearty shrimp grits that the area is famous for. You could select to walk in the French Quarter, take a cemetery tour, brave the swamps and allegators on a flat-bottomed boat or airboat. Maybe you'd just like to partake of the delicious flavors of the city. In the evening, you can relax at a local jazz bar, explore some of the Bourbon Orleans Hotel for paranormal activity or take a haunted walking tour of the area. So much to do!
Included in your event fee, on Monday morning the group departs the hotel together to enjoy our jazz brunch at the Court of Two Sisters. Feast on eggs benedict, Southern grits, egg omelets, chicken & sausage gumbo, turtle soup, fried catfish, shrimp etouffee, chicken and sausage jambalaya, shrimp past, stewed okra, sweet potatoes, breakfast ham, boiled shrimp, salad, fresh fruit, cheeses, bananas foster, pecan pie, bread pudding with whiskey sauce and assorted cakes.
After brunch, you will have some more time to explore the city on your own. In the evening, the group will depart together to meet the New Orleans Paranormal Society for our exclusive, private paranormal tour of the Hotel Provincial and the private property of a Voodoo Priestess.
Tuesday morning, you can enjoy breakfast on your own (one last chance for those yummy beignets) before we check out at 11am and depart New Orleans for St. Francisville, LA and the Myrtles Plantation. After check-in at the Myrtles Plantation, the group will be given an informative history tour of the plantation. Dinner will be on your own where you can travel into St. Francisville or enjoy dinner at the Restaurant 1796 at the Myrtles (reservations are suggested prior to arrival). We will begin our paranormal exploration of the Myrtles Plantation at 8:30pm. We have exclusive access to the guest rooms in the original home and the caretaker's quarters. You can also explore the land on this 18 acre property, home to some of the original plantation.
Visitors have reported feeling sudden coldness or a spectral touch, which is often attributed to the ghosts of the plantation. They describe hearing eerie piano music, heavy footsteps, and mournful sighs in the dead of night. Ghost hunters claim to have captured images of orbs and even a full body apparition, possibly of the plantation's former residents, in photographs and recordings.
In a prior trip to the Myrtles Plantation, Spirited Events by Jofa's guests were touched in bed and felt unseen visitors sit on their bed at night. We had a great EVP in the caretaker's quarters telling the guest to "Get out of bed!" What will you experience?
On Wednesday morning, you can satisfy your appetite at breakfast at the Myrtles between 7:30-9:00am. Lunch and dinner will be on your own where you can travel into St. Francisville or enjoy dinner at the Restaurant 1796 at the Myrtles (reservations are suggested prior to arrival). You can take some laid back time rocking on the chairs of the plantation porch. We will begin our second paranormal exploration of the Myrtles Plantation at 8:30pm.
All good things must come to an end. Thursday morning you will have breakfast again at the Myrtles before checking out. The group will then head to the New Orleans airport for travel back to your home where you can regale friends and family with your haunting tales of New Orleans and the Myrtles Plantation!

Construction began in 1806 on the Orleans Theatre but the War of 1812 delayed its opening until 1815. Unfortunately, a fire destroyed the structure in 1816. Luckily, entrepreneur John Davis buys the land and rebuilds the Orleans Theatre. He adds ballroom designed by Henry Latrobe, the designer of the U.S. Capitol. Unfortunately, in 1866 fire strikes again and destroys the theatre but luckily the ballroom was unharmed.
By 1881, the Sisters of the Holy Family purchased the former Orleans Ballroom. They convert the building into a convent including a motherhouse, orphanage and school for African American girls called St Mary’s Academy. By the 1960s, the convent grows to over 400 nuns and then sells the property in 1964, 83 years after taking possession.
The Bourbon Kings Hotel Corporation purchases the property from the Sisters of the Holy Family and plan to restore the former Orleans Ballroom and build a hotel. The proposed $7 million dollar hotel would restore the Orleans Ballroom building. The grand opening took place on July 18, 1966.
The haunting history of the hotel today includes a Confederate soldier, children, nuns, a lonely dancer and more. Bourbon Orleans Hotel ranks among the 10 most haunted hotels according to USA Today’s 10Best Top Ten Haunted Hotels in America.
Stories of the Confederate soldier (called “The Man”) surround both the sixth and third floors. There have been sightings of a little girl rolling a ball then chasing down the sixth floor hallway.
Footsteps in the hallways are a common occurrence. Ghost children and female apparitions are most common. The Orleans Ballroom reportedly has a lonely spectral dancer seen dancing under the crystal chandelier. There have been reports of rustling in the ballroom and a person hiding behind the draperies. Hallways have disembodied voices whispering. Cold spots are experienced and sometimes happen during sightings of apparitions.
The Myrtles Plantation was built in 1796. Located in St. Francisville, Louisiana, it has a rich history as a Creole plantation. It is now reported to one of America’s most haunted homes.

The Myrtles Plantation was built in 1796. Located in St. Francisville, Louisiana, it has a rich history as a Creole plantation. It is now reported to one of America’s most haunted homes.
The plantation was built by General David Bradford after fleeing the Pennsylvania’s Whiskey Rebellion. The plantation was worked by enslaved people to grow indigo, cotton and corn. He originally named it “Laurel Grove”. It was a Civil War Hospital during the Civil War.
In 1817, Matilda Bradford, General Bradford’s daughter, was united with Clark Woodruff. This started a new chapter for the plantation. In 1823, Sarah Matilda passed away from most likely yellow fever. In 1824, two of her children, James and Cornelia, also passed from the same disease.
By 1834, the plantation changed hands when Clark Woodruff entrusted it to Ruffin Stirling. It was Mr. Stirling that renamed it “The Myrtles” due to the crape myrtles on the manor. In 1852, Mr. Stirling’s daughter, Sarah, married William Winter. However, in 1871, William Winter met a mysterious death on the front porch. Sarah passed away on April 16, 1878 at the age of 44. Her cause of death is unknown.
Stephen Stirling sells the property to Oran D. Brooks in 1886. But, by 1889, the plantation was acquired by Harrison Milton Williams who would ensure its preservation for future generations. In 1909, Mr. Williams passes away and the plantation passed to his family. 1935 was the year Fannie Williams dies and the property went to her descendants.
In 1953, Marjorie Munson buys the plantation property and begins its restoration. By 1960, the property garnered attention for its history and the gift shop and tours become part of its appeal.
1976 was the year Arlin Dease and a partner purchased the Myrtles Plantation continuing extensive restoration. The plantation again changed ownership in 1980 when James and Frances Kermeen Myers purchase it and transform it into a bed and breakfast.
1992, The Moss family then purchased the plantation as their primary residence. Mrs. Moss captures the iconic photo of “Chloe”. Then, in the 20002, the Myrtles expands the operation of a restaurant, accommodations for overnight guests and variety of tours. By 2020s, there are now 20 guest rooms, a restaurant, coffee shop, gardens and seasonal events.
During a prior Spirited Events by Jofa event at the Myrtles Plantation, we experienced many EVPs including one that said, "Get Out Of Bed" on a recording that was taping during someone's nap, beds moving/shaking, feels of being paralyzed while in bed, disembodied voices and more.
