"West Virginia Penitentiary Paranormal Exploration in Moundsville, WV"

Can you spend the night in the West Virginia Penitentiary? What about two nights?? This is your opportunity to find out.

First opened in 1876, the prison has seen riots, fires, executions, homicides, escapes and overcrowding. Built on 10 acres, the 6 acre enclosure is sounded by 24 ft. walls that are 6 ft. deep at the base and 2 ft. deep at the top.

At its worse, the prison housed more than 2,700 prisoners when it was rated for a capacity of only 696. You will have access to the 5x7x7’ cells that often housed up to 3 prisoners at a time. With no air conditioning and only steam heat, you can only imagine how deplorable the conditions must have been.

The United States Department of Justice included the West Virginia Penitentiary in their Top Ten Most Violent correctional Facilities list. There were 36 homicides of prisoners by their fellow inmates, often by prison gangs.

Within these walls between 1899 and 1959, there have been 94 prisoners executed (85 by hanging at the gallows) and 9 by electrocution. You can see the original electric chair nicknamed “Old Sparky” and walk in the North Wagon Gate which housed the gallows.

In the 20’s and 30’s, there was an outbreak of tuberculosis at the penitentiary. During this time, more inmates died of TB than any other cause at the prison. Walk the TB and medical wards and witness some of the surgical and dental equipment still residing in the prison.

EVENING EXPLORATION: Needless to say, West Virginia Penitentiary is renowned for its paranormal activity. Here's your chance to spend two nights exploring the prison for paranormal activity. Some paranormal equipment will be available for your use. However, we highly suggest that you bring your own cameras, recorders, paranormal equipment and flashlight. This event is designed for the serious, experienced paranormal explorer.

The group will be broken up into 4 teams. The prison will be broken up into 4 sections and each team will explore two sections of the prison each night giving everyone the opportunity to explore the entire prison.

Before the event, all attendees are required to complete a Paranormal License Agreement and Waiver of Liability and Rules Agreement. These will be distributed at the event.

Attendees must provide their own transportation to and from the prison. Parking is available in front of the prison.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

Event fee is non-refundable if you cancel or cannot attend this event unless you are able to find a person to replace you.

Hello, I am the owner of Spirited Events by Jofa. Are you wondering how to properly pronounce my first name? It looks like it should be pronounced like sofa, but it's actually pronounced like Hoffa from Jimmy Hoffa. My name may look like I'm from another country, but let me assure you, I'm Pennsylvania Dutch through and through, born and raised in south Central Pennsylvania. Gotta love those PA Dutch apple dumplings!

I started Spirited Events by Jofa in 2014 so I could offer unique and intimate spiritual, metaphysical and paranormal events to my clients with the occasional fun girls weekend events thrown in there.

Having been an insurance professional for over 30 years, one day I realized I wanted more out of life. Having run-my-course in the insurance industry, I had an overwhelming desire to explore metaphysics, spirituality and the paranormal.

Hence, Spirited Events by Jofa was born.

My experience with with paranormal started when I began working in Gettysburg, PA. Since then, I've had the opportunity to work with experienced paranormal investigators and gifted mediums while exploring both public and private venues and assisting numerous private citizens in their homes.

Some of the most notable places I've investigated include The Myrtles, Ohio State Reformatory, Hill View Manor, Eastern State Penitentiary, Bellaire House, Bobby Mackey's, Fort Mifflin, West Virginia State Penitentiary, Brushy Mountain State Penitentiary, South PIttsburg Hospital, Grand Old Lady Hotel, Cashtown Inn, numerous locations in Gettysburg and Shephardstown and many, many more.

Each venue brings new experiences, challenges, rewards and always offers a glimpse into the unknown. It's allowed me to explore the universe, myself and life while helping others to understand this unknown realm!
