7-DAY HAUNTED WESTERN NEW YORK TOUR - PARANORMAL VENUES

Dunkirk Lighthouse & Veterans Museum

Dunkirk Lighthouse & Veterans Museum

Dunkirk Lighthouse & Veterans Museum

The Dunkirk Lighthouse is a historical working lighthouse and there is an adjacent Victorian keeper’s house (circa 1875).  The lighthouse was first established on Point Gratiot in 1827 to guide ships to the safety of Dunkirk Harbor. The 61-ft lighthouse tower has its original third order Fresnel lens and the light's 27-mile range makes it one of the most prominent lights on Lake Erie.

At Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse, paranormal activity stems from a large collection of military artifacts from WWI, WW2, and the Korean War. Or does it? Some have reported the lighthouse keepers who used to care for Dunkirk liked it so much, they just never left. Decide for yourself when you visit. You may hear people walking around the house, climbing the tower stairs, talking, humming – even reaching out to touch you.

Iron Island Museum

The Iron Island Museum is in a building that was a former church, built in 1883. The church closed in the late 1940s and it sat empty until 1956, when it was purchased and turned into a funeral home. In August of 2000, it was donated to the Iron Island Preservation Society of Lovejoy, Inc. for its museum. This building is loaded with history from the Iron Island neighborhood, City of Buffalo, the railroad, the military and much, much more. Its history is what makes it so haunted. Once you come visit the museum for the spirits, you end up appreciating its amazing history.

The building is haunted by many spirits, some we've been able to identify, such as Edgar Zernicke, whose cremated remains went unclaimed in the basement and two 6-year-old boys who were both waked out of the funeral home in the 1960s. Spirit voices have been recorded along with pictures and video's of the spirits that haunt the building. Many different spirits seem to come and go, but many stay to visit with the guests.

Red Coach Inn

Dunkirk Lighthouse & Veterans Museum

The Winery at Marjim Manor

When The Red Coach Inn, a Niagara Falls USA historic hotel and B&B, opened its doors for business on August 30, 1923, Niagara Falls had finally gained a hostelry befitting its rank as the "honeymoon capital of the world." Situated near the center of town overlooking the spectacular Upper Rapids, the Inn was an imposing structure, three and one-half stories high, and built in the architectural style of the old English Tudor period. The owners, William Schoellkopf and Charles Peabody, spared no expense or effort in recreating the atmosphere and style of the Bell Inn in Finedon, England. History says the Old Bell "was granted a license during the reign of the Saxon King Harold and Queen Editha who often rested there when stag hunting."

Red Coach Inn is home to a few ghosts – including the bride and groom who took their lives on their wedding day. Ask the staff about the ghost stories or experience them for yourself; guests of the historic hotel have reported seeing jewelry move across dressers, hearing music playing in the middle of the night, and the sound of people walking and dancing above them when they are already on the top floor.

What is the difference between a wine and a spirit? At the Winery at Marjim Manor, wine is what you taste; spirits are who you meet. As you taste our fruit and grape wines, you will hear stories about the former residents. Shubal Scudder Merritt built the manor in the 1800s, the same home where he accidentally shot and killed his son Lewis. In the very doorway where Lewis died, staff have seen a Victorian boy standing and visitors have overheard the ghostly question, "Who’s in my house?" Guests are welcome to taste wines and hear more of the manor’s haunted tales, such as lights that turn on by themselves, and wine bottles that fall off shelves.

If you are a "Pear Made in Heaven" and wanted to live "Applely Ever After," please visit the Manor. We always "Peach for the Stars" while we share our "Gift from the Vine."

Historic Palmyra Museums

Visit the historically haunted museums of Historic Palmyra. Dubbed one of “the most haunted places in the Finger Lakes”,the Phelps General Store and Residence is one of the many places where the hauntings occur. At the Historical Museum, guests can explore the 23 rooms of the old hotel that was moved to its current location at 132 Market Street after a fire in 1964 killed a young mother and her 6 children. Visitors can hear the ghostly laughter of the children as they run from room to room, playing hide and seek. Footsteps and eerie noises can be heard coming from the Erie Canal Depot and Palmyra Print Shop as well.

Historic Palmyra has three buildings that are suitable for hunting - from a 3-single room floor Erie Canal Depot to a 3-story, totally original general store and home just steps from the Erie Canal (the place where 7 people died in a horrific fire). The Alling Coverlet Museums stands as the third building open for exploration, a treasure trove of handmade American Coverlets, or bedcovers. Each house items from the early 1800’s which tell the stories of families, businesses, and farmers and bankers; and how they lived and worked in a well-established canal town. Everything in these museums offers the remanences of 200 years of living, dying, and prosperity.
